All About Me

Hello, my name is Ms. Armani Ruffin. I am originally from Chesapeake Virginia but was raised in Brooklyn,New York when I was 5 years old. I am a Gemini. My birthday is June 4th. I am a current junior at Morgan State University right now, majoring in Elementary Education. Since I was a little girl, I used to say I wanted to be either a doctor or a teacher. As high school ended and I had to be real with myself, I thought back to what is deep in my heart, and I went with elementary education. I love kids, kids are a gift from God and are so sweet and I thought this is what I would like to do for the rest of my life. In middle school I had this teacher that I would never forget about, Ms. Benjamin. She was my school mother, she was so sweet to me always, assisted me with whatever was in the world. Sometimes I would come to school with my hair Messed up and I never knew how to fix it, and she would always take time out of her breaks, time that she is teaching to help me with my hair. Down to the little things like that inspired me to want to be there for kids how Ms. Benjamin was for me. Everybody needs a Ms. Benjamin and that's why Ms. Ruffin is striving and going hard for what she wants. I have twin little brothers who I love dearly and as I watch them go and guide them, I just feel so good inside seeing them flourish into the men they are. I would love to be there as a guardian, as a teacher in somebody else's life and watching them grow its an honoring job and I feel like this is a great field.

This is me

Educational Philosophy

 Armani Ruffin

Looking outside, teaching looks easy and fun. Teaching is more than just being an easy and fun job; teaching is a life-changing career for you and someone else’s. Education is a life-changing journey that gives students the skills they need to succeed in every aspect of their lives. I believe as a teacher/ educator when you come to work you put everything you have aside and care for the kids for as long as they are in your care. You come to work to teach kids yes but also make their lives easier and better the best you can. There are many ways to be there for a child; everybody has different problems, so as a teacher, I must be ready for students' situations. You must know how to read a child and find out what is wrong. When I first began my career and I set up my first ever class I already promised to myself to have setup stations around the kids for personal space, personal self-care items ( deodorant ,toothbrushes, extra under clothing etc.) because I know as a kid in school I seen a lot but I never understood until later in life what's going on. I just promised myself to make kids' lives easier, I see a lot that happens in the news    now with teachers and how they either are harming the children or protecting their students, and I just want to protect my future students. I believe that while in the classroom it is a safe space. Safe space as far as if they ever need anything they can come to me because I am here as a teacher to assist them academically, personally, mentally. Students do come to school because its mandatory by law, but students come to also learn life skills and the be around people their age, but it is the teacher job to make sure the students receive the proper education no matter what attitude the child come to school with. When it comes to teaching and learning, it is not easy at all. I feel like it is hard to get somebody else to understand something you already know if you do not know how to explain things properly. I know growing up sometimes I had to have the teacher reword some things because of how they explained it. I would never have a problem with explaining myself several times when in the future teaching because I know how to look at things from a teacher perspective and a student perspective because I was once in that spot as a student.

Lesson Plan using technology

I used digital resources like Khan Academy and practical exercises to educate second-grade children about place value in this lesson plan. Through base-10 blocks and whiteboards, the project-based learning method helped students understand the concepts of hundreds, tens, and ones by letting them physically break down numbers. By giving students, a more practical understanding of mathematical ideas, this hands-on instruction is essential for tackling issues like student engagement and different learning styles. Small group projects and one-on-one help are examples of adaptations that guarantee all students, including those with special needs, get the help they require.

Candidates Name: Armani Ruffin

Grade Level: 2nd

Subject/Discipline:

Math

Number of Students: 20

Special Needs Accommodations: Small pull-out groups, one on one help during free times, seat changed if needed for improvement.

Overview: Today students will learn about place values using the online source Khan Academy. In today's lesson students will learn how to break down numbers in different ways using the tens and one's place value. We will after come together do a couple of problems together using on hand building blocks then do a short fun quiz on Kahoot before ending class.

Common Core Learning Standards Addressed:

  • Counting with 10’s to 100, Counting by 5’s to 100.

  • Understanding place values with hundreds, tens, and ones.

Lesson Objectives:

  • Students will be able to identify the place value in three-digit numbers.

  • Students will be able to break down two-to-three-digit numbers into hundreds, tens, and ones.

  • Students will be able to recognize larger and smaller numbers by their place values.

Learner Prior Knowledge:

  • Students can count and write up to 120.

  • Students can count by 5’s and 10s.

  1.

Relevance/Rationale: This lesson is important for real life because as you grow, older numbers mean a lot whether it is money, gas, measurements, payments. So being able to add, subtract, breakdown numbers, and identify its amount is necessary and extremely important that you understand this concept.

Formative Assessment Criteria for Success: (How will you & your students know if they have successfully met the outcomes? What specific criteria will be met in a successful product/process? What does success on this lesson’s outcomes look like?)

If my students can correctly divide numbers into their place values (ones, tens, etc.) by the end of the course, I will know they have understood it. Students will be considered successful if they can accurately answer questions, show understanding on a short test, and correctly identify the place value of numbers during class discussions.

Activities/Tasks: (What learning experiences will students engage in? How will you use these learning experiences or their student products as formative assessment opportunities?) Detailed narrative.

First, we will define and talk about the ones, tens, and hundreds of places during a class discussion on place values. After that, we will make a basic base   chart to show the numbers' place values. Students will be given numbers and divided into ones, tens, and hundreds using whiteboards in small groups. Finally, students will play a Kahoot! game or take a little quiz in which they must choose the right place value for the provided numbers. I will determine their level of comprehension by using these exercises as formative evaluations.

Resources/Materials: (What texts, digital resources, & materials will be used in this lesson?

During the group exercise, students will practice decomposing numbers using whiteboards. To assess their comprehension, the Kahoot! quiz will be a digital exit ticket. To assist students with visualizing place values, I will also have a place value chart up around the classroom.

Access for All:  (How will you ensure that all students have access to and are able to engage appropriately in this lesson? Consider all aspects of student diversity.)

I will use visual aids (such as the place value chart), clear explanations, and YouTube videos that demonstrate place value to make sure every student can participate in the session. To make sure every student has access to the resources and knowledge they need, I will go about the classroom helping as required. I will provide extra assistance to students who may need it during group projects, encourage them to voice their questions, and pull them out of groups if one-on-one assistance is required, before its time to test their knowledge.

Modifications/Accommodations: (What curriculum modifications and/or classroom accommodations will you make for Students with Disabilities in your class? I will give step-by-step directions and visual aids to kids with impairments so they can remember the lesson. I will provide small group learning if necessary to provide more concentrated attention, addressing any problem areas. I will also be sure to follow up with kids who might be having trouble, giving them more time and assistance as they complete the tasks. Also providing parents with informal videos, websites, and tools to help the scholar better understand and learn while at home as well.
