Educational Philosophy

 Armani Ruffin

Looking outside, teaching looks easy and fun. Teaching is more than just being an easy and fun job; teaching is a life-changing career for you and someone else’s. Education is a life-changing journey that gives students the skills they need to succeed in every aspect of their lives. I believe as a teacher/ educator when you come to work you put everything you have aside and care for the kids for as long as they are in your care. You come to work to teach kids yes but also make their lives easier and better the best you can. There are many ways to be there for a child; everybody has different problems, so as a teacher, I must be ready for students' situations. You must know how to read a child and find out what is wrong. When I first began my career and I set up my first ever class I already promised to myself to have setup stations around the kids for personal space, personal self-care items ( deodorant ,toothbrushes, extra under clothing etc.) because I know as a kid in school I seen a lot but I never understood until later in life what's going on. I just promised myself to make kids' lives easier, I see a lot that happens in the news    now with teachers and how they either are harming the children or protecting their students, and I just want to protect my future students. I believe that while in the classroom it is a safe space. Safe space as far as if they ever need anything they can come to me because I am here as a teacher to assist them academically, personally, mentally. Students do come to school because its mandatory by law, but students come to also learn life skills and the be around people their age, but it is the teacher job to make sure the students receive the proper education no matter what attitude the child come to school with. When it comes to teaching and learning, it is not easy at all. I feel like it is hard to get somebody else to understand something you already know if you do not know how to explain things properly. I know growing up sometimes I had to have the teacher reword some things because of how they explained it. I would never have a problem with explaining myself several times when in the future teaching because I know how to look at things from a teacher perspective and a student perspective because I was once in that spot as a student.
